I heard a podcast recently about the idea of whimsy in everyday life. The idea of adding some playful energy to moments so we might enjoy them more or remember them better. Some ideas presented were starting a round of jokes in a group, riding the shopping cart to the corral, celebrating half-birthdays (I love to do this one), referring to the day before garbage pickup as “garbage eve” (I adopted that one), and googly eyes on anything. It’s a way to keep things light.
I, a self-identified silly goose, LOVE the idea of adding whimsy in not-so-obvious ways all around. I feel that home should embody your persona and since I love to laugh, I love the idea of fun design elements that let people know this is a house of giggles. Why have a regular lamp when you can have a glowing, spinning Saturn on your shelf?
Around the house, whimsy can contribute to your home’s individual identity. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE a fabulous designer chair on a lovely rug with all the design embellishments to really make it a knockout space. Adding an element of whimsy can spark conversations and smiles and that’s always nice.
